50(1) Days

Thursday, June 12th - 50 days on from groundbreaking

Positive feedback from friends spun into a showcase of Blackfile Cybercraft at an audiovisual arts showcase at the local pub on Sunday, May 25th.  I added more locations, text, objects and music while fixing a few of the most egregious bugs. The game was set up on a CRT computer monitor in a booth and open for patrons to play (not many did.) Later in the night the game was projected and played over the bar's sound system with some commentary, explaining the origins of the game, the rules and limitations which formed its creation and the meaning behind the text presented throughout the world. People seemed to enjoy what we showed, one shared a story of their own experience with a cyberpunk secret society. The response motivated me to keep going and see what this game could become. I hope to continue for another 50 days. I am still sticking to the original rules of the Spelunker category of the DiscMaster Jam, which is 100% ripped assets, though I relaxed on my initial idea of 100% of all text and dialogue coming from DiscMaster documents. I lost my original list of the files used. I may attempt to reassemble a complete list of the origins of the assets sampled, but as the game grows the more difficult that will become. Much of the world and story was conceived through documents on DiscMaster, primarily one called CYBERCRAFT on a CD called Black Philes, which muses on the ideas of Timothy Leary and Robert Anton Wilson. The character sprites were pulled from a Civilization III mod included on a disc from a Russian gaming magazine. Much of the terrain, buildings and objects were sourced from other odd abandonware including a seemingly bootleg Starship Troopers top down shooter. The music was created by swapping the sounds from midi files to 8bit Amiga samples and doing some light editing. In my ideal world I would have more time for projects like this, but unfortunately I live in industrial world where I must make great sacrifices in order to dream, so  please consider making a donation in the form of money, work, or connections. Thank you for your time, I hope you enjoy the creations of Torture Software/Mind Maker.
